  • Identify your stressors so you can knock them out! Think about what’s causing stress in your life, and then figure out how to get rid of it. Writing it down may help, or you might need to talk to someone.
  • Get some exercise. Sometimes, just taking a walk can help to clear your head. Exercise can boost your mood, so try to work in at least 30 minutes every day, doing a physical activity you enjoy.
  • Take time to breathe. Breathing exercises can help your body relax, so if you’re feeling stressed, take a moment for some slow, deep breaths. Practicing mindfulness is another way to calm down, concentrating on being in the moment and savoring pleasant things.
  • Spend time with people. Isolation is a major cause of stress for older adults. People who live in senior living communities are fortunate because there are plenty of opportunities to socialize! Invite someone to lunch, participate in a group activity, or just spend time talking to a friend. You may feel your stress dissipate!
  • Try new things. Pick up a new hobby, take a class, or go on an adventure. Branch out and try something new, and you may find that you’ve been distracted from feeling stressed.
  • Laugh more! Keeping a sense of humor is one of the best ways to reduce your stress levels and remain calm. Make friends who keep you laughing, watch a comedy movie, or read a humorous book. Anything that lets you laugh will help alleviate your stress.
